Driver Involved In Two Serious Collisions In Five Days In Port Hope

A Durham region man is facing charges following a collision in Port Hope on May 2, 2020.

At approximately 11 a.m. a SUV was travelling northbound on Ontario Street near Ellen Street when it went off the roadway, struck a utility pole and flipped onto its roof.

The lone occupant, a 27-year-old Durham region man extricated himself with assistance from bystanders.

Port Hope Fire Department along with Port Hope Police blocked the roadway until hydro crews arrived.

Northumberland County Paramedics transferred the man to Northumberland Hills Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV is charged with

· impaired driving

· possession of a controlled substance

Today’s Northumberland has also learned the individual was also the driver who was airlifted after being involved in a collision at County Road 9 and County Road 10 in Garden Hill on April 27, 2020.

While police and hydro crews were on scene, a car travelling southbound on Ontario Street drove through the blocked road. Port Hope Police warned the driver about travelling through a blocked road and the possibility of Highway Traffic Act charges.
