Breaking News – Kawartha Lakes OPP – Victim Of Shooting in Omemee Identified

On February 18, 2020, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews responded to assist a person suffering a gunshot wound at a residence in Omemee.

Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Services transported the victim to an area hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Alexander TOBIN of Omemee, Ontario.

Responding OPP members were provided with descriptors of the suspects and quickly located and arrested them. Both accused are residents of the Toronto area and remain in custody as the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

Investigators are requesting persons who may have witnessed this incident to please contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Police want to reassure the community that there is no connection between this incident and the occurrence earlier this date that resulted in two schools being placed into a hold and secure situation.
