Two Men Plead Guilty To Illegal Dumping of Roof Shingles

Two men plead guilty to mischief in Cobourg Court after shingles were dumped in a farmer’s field earlier this year.

Danny Vitali (age 40) of Cobourg, Ontario and Justin Kenneth Todd Young (age 30) of Hamilton Township, Ontario were arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with Mischief under $5,000 following an investigation by members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after the illegal dumping of roofing shingles was reported on August 12, 2019.

Both men plead guilty to the offence on November 20, 2019.

Young received a 12-month suspended sentence with nine conditions including:
Keep the peace and be of good behaviour
Perform 70 hours of community service work on a rate and schedule to be directed by the probation officer but must be completed within 12 months.
Pay victim surcharge of $100.00.

Vitali received a 12-month suspended sentence with five conditions including:
Keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Pay victim surcharge of $100.00

On November 28, 2019 two members of the roofing company were on-site where the shingles were dumped in August cleaning up the all the materials.

A Ministry of Environment officer stood by to oversee the clean-up of the shingles. The area where the shingles were illegally dumped will be restored to what it was before. A metal detector will even be used to confirm there is no trace of any debris left behind.
