Northumberland OPP Holds Speed Enforcement Initiative Along Highway 401

In Editor Choice, Police Blotter

Members of Northumberland OPP held a speed enforcement initiative along Highway 401 in Port Hope on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

In the span of 1.5 hours during Tuesday afternoon, seven cars were pulled over, all travelling between 140 kph and 150 kph.

One officer was located on the Wesleyville overpass monitoring eastbound traffic with a laser radar unit, that not only calculates the speed of the vehicle, but also the distance the vehicle is from the radar unit.

The officer would observe the vehicle and radio other officers located on the east-bound on-ramp.

Officers would communicate with each other to confirm it was the correct vehicle and once pulled over the driver was given the ticket that ranged from $295 to $359.
