Fundraiser in Support of the “Opera House” in Port Hope

In entertainment, Upcoming Events

The Port Hope Branch of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario is holding a riotous fundraiser with renowned soprano – comedienne Mary Lou Fallis and her sidekick Peter Tiefenbach. The concert will be on Sunday afternoon, September 22 at 2:30 at the Port Hope United Church to raise funds for the hall, grandly called, the “Opera House”. After the concert there will be an optional reception at a private residence.

Built in 1878, the concert hall hosted everything cultural in the area: plays, concerts, musicals, lectures but closed in the 1930s. Much of the hall, including the stage, although in disrepair, still exists on the second floor of the Royal Bank Building. There is so much potential for renewal and exciting possibilities for the town’s Heritage District.

Come out Sunday, September 22nd at 2:30 and support the cause. Hear Gemini Award winning singer, Mary Lou Fallis and her inimitable classical music comedy. Also, musical hits from the Canadian past: “Oh, what a difference since the hydro came!” “Paddle your Own Canoe” and “Take your Girl out to the Rink.”

Tickets are available in Port Hope at Furby Books and Holton Flowers and in Cobourg at Quinn’s Blooms and Long & McQuade. Tickets are also available online at acoporthope.ca through Eventbrite.

It’s our dream that this handsome building be restored. Come to this “laugh out loud” concert and help with this first step toward that dream.
