One woman was arrested after a sharp-eyed employee noticed two people rummaging through a pickup truck in Cobourg on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

Matt Halmasy was working at a business just off Division Street behind PetroCan when he noticed a woman going through the contents of a pick up truck at approximately 11 a.m.

“I was working and saw the lady in the back of the truck,” said Halmasy.

After telling a co-worker that someone was in his truck, the owner quickly went out to confront the two individual.

“I followed her to the front of the gas station,” said Andrew Vanderveur who owns the pickup.

Shortly after the man and woman starting running south on Division Street with Vanderveur following close behind.

“She handed him something and (she) went into Tim Hortons and he bolted behind Castle Lumber.”

Vanderveur said he stayed outside Tim Hortons, but when the suspect came out she started screaming profanities at him.

“I called 9-1-1 again and stayed on the phone till police showed up.”

A few things are missing from the pickup truck, but Vanderveur is still trying to determine what is missing.

“I’m very shocked this happened. Not 15 feet from where I work in broad daylight.”

A female was arrested by Cobourg Police near a swampy area behind Dairy Queen. No word from police on charges.
