The Gallant Knights Charity Sports Association is proud to officially present the 2019 Soldier On Charity Motorcycle Ride & Classic Car Rally on behalf of, and in support of, the Soldier On Program which is administered by the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services Directorate as part of its Support Our Troops- Yellow Ribbon Campaign.
Major Cory Moore is the Event Director behind the Motorcycle Ride and Classic Car Rally that is taking place in 18 cities across Ontario, raising funds for specialized, adaptive sports equipment for Team Canada. 100% of the net profits raised will be used to support Soldier On programs related to Team Canada’s participation in events such as the Warrior Games and Invictus Games.
Soldier On, the Warrior Games and the Invictus Games at a glance:
Soldier On is a Canadian Armed Forces program that supports serving and retired members to overcome mental health or physical illness or injury through sport and physical activity. The program re-introduces service men and women to an active lifestyle and provides members with opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence in their abilities and meet peers with similar challenges.
The Warrior Games were established in 2010 as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, ill and injured service members and expose them to adaptive sports. The Games is an international event to encourage service men and women to stay physically active when they return to their local communities, make new friends and inspire and promote opportunities for personal growth and achievement.
The Invictus Games was created by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in 2014 after he attended the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado, USA. The Invictus Games uses the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for ill and injured service men and women. The word ‘Invictus’ means ‘unconquered’ – it embodies the fighting spirit of the wounded, injured and sick service personnel who are taking part in not only the Games but their personal recovery journey.
Team Canada has just returned home from the 2019 Department of Defence Warrior Games in Tampa, Florida where the hospitality was second to none. Team Canada achieved an impressive 21 medals, including 10 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze. Understanding that using the power of sports to help service members recover, United States Special Operation Command Colonel Cary Harbaugh with 40 years of service committed himself to one additional year of service to host the 2019 Games, of which 6 countries participated. Major Cory Moore was on the receiving end of the Director of Logistics, Meredith Seeley’s generosity in receiving over 130 new and unused 2019 Warrior Games volunteer t-shirts in support of this upcoming Soldier On event.
