Cobourg council voted at this week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting to establish two new committees.
After almost 20 years of presenting Cobourg Civic Awards, council has voted to dissolve the current Civic Awards Ad Hoc Committee in favour of an advisory committee to administer the annual awards. Membership would consist of Mayor John Henderson, three members of the current Civic Awards Ad Hoc committee, three members-at-large from the community, and staff representation from the mayor’s executive assistant.
The motion included a direction to staff to prepare a report on this change no later than Sept. 3, so that the committee can carry out its responsibilities prior to the next awards presentation in April 2020.
The second committee established a council-and-staff working group to evaluate the Community Improvement Plan applications that are due in by July 4 as part of the Downtown Vitalization initiative. The make-up of this committee will be two members of council, two members of municipal advisory committees, two representatives of the local business community and three senior municipal staffers.
