In Upcoming Events

The Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre will open for another season this coming Saturday, May 18, 2019.

It is the eighth year for the museum and members were putting the final touches on the displays on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

The theme for this year is titled “Artifactually Speaking.”

“Various stuff gets dropped off over the years and sometimes we say we’d love it and sometimes we don’t, and it gets stored. So we figured it was time to bring it out and tell the story,” states Treasurer Stanley Isherwood.

The displays are a “complete mix” of the history of Cobourg and area.

From keys to the Car Ferry to stone arrow heads there are a number of interesting artifacts.

Among the items on display will be Victoria Hall made from Lego by 43-year-old Jonathan Van de Stouwe.

The building took two months to build because there was so many windows and Van de Stouwe had to order more from Lego.

“I was lucky enough that the Building and Planning Department at Victoria Hall was able to give me a copy of the blueprints and elevation drawings.”

For people who are interested, there are a number of items to view in the display including the mayor standing out front with a brief case and cup of coffee, a number of workers “supervising” (standing around) while one person who is working, six animals (two birds, two cats, two dogs), also included is the piano that is outside Victoria Hall for the summer months, Tom Macmillan’s memorial, and a cannon.

Van de Stouwe said he always played with Lego as a child, and over the last several years has continued his hobby.

Opening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. until July when it is open everyday except Monday and Tuesday.
