(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 178 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
January 7
· A 32-year-old man from the Municipality of Trent Hills was arrested and charged by police with Mischief and Utter Threats in relation to domestic dispute investigation. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on a date in February 2019.
January 8
· Police attended an address in the town of Campbellford just after 5:00 am after receiving a report of a domestic dispute in progress. As a result of the investigation officers arrested and charged a 29-year-old male from Trent Hills, Ontario with Assault, Mischief, Utter Threats and Fail to comply with Probation Order. The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing in Cobourg.
· A resident who resides on Dale Road in Hamilton Township called police after finding his vehicle that was parked in his driveway had been rummaged through sometime overnight. No items were reported missing from the vehicle.*
· A male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township reported being a victim of fraud. He told police that he received an email from a friend asking him to buy some iTunes cards. The victim bought $600 worth of cards and emailed the cards activation information. The victim then made verbal contact with his friend and confirmed that both their email accounts had been hacked.*
January 9
· At approximately 4:30 am officers responded to a report of a female possibly in distress in a limousine on Highway 401 in Hamilton Township. Officers subsequently received another call stating that a female passenger was acting unruly on a bus on Highway 401 near the same location. As a result of the investigation a 20-year-old female from Montreal, Quebec was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with Public Mischief. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 27, 2019.
· Just before midnight officers were dispatched to Lake Street in Hamilton Township for a report of a yellow pick-up truck that had backed into a ditch. As a result of the investigation 45-year-old Lexter Mendex-Santiago from Port Hope, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following offences:
– Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Failure or Refusal to comply with demand
– Operation while Prohibited
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
– Being Intoxicated in a public place
The accused was held in custody until sober then released. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 13, 2019.
· A male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township called police to report he was a victim of a fraud. He placed an ad on Kijiji looking for parts in order to repair a piece of farm equipment he owned. The ad was answered by a man claiming to be from Winnipeg stating he owned the same piece of equipment that was no longer useable. A deposit of $500 was e-transferred and a verbal agreement was made that the remainder of what is owed would be paid in full in upon delivery. Correspondence with the suspect had since ceased despite several attempts to make contact.*
January 10
· A female from the town of Brighton called police just before 10:00 pm to ask for assistance in locating her 14-year-old son who had not returned home from school. At approximately 11:00 pm officers located the male youth and transported him back to his residence.
· A male from Hamilton Township spoke to police regarding an email he received from an organization demanding money. The email indicted that a video would be sent to his family and friends of him visiting adult sites if money was not sent. No funds were exchanged and the male was educated on this particular scam. Advice was provided.
Officers also investigated 14 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 23 motor vehicle collisions; 37 traffic related complaints and conducted 12 RIDE programs during this time period.
