Cobourg Police – Festive R.I.D.E. Checks

In Police Blotter

The Festive R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Program started on the 8th of December, 2018 and will continue into January, 2019. Cobourg Police Officers, Special Constables and Auxiliary Officers will be stopping vehicles during the checks.

The Cobourg Police Service is committed to reducing the incidents of impaired driving by alcohol and drug in our community.

Officers investigate impaired driving, alcohol and/or drugs by conducting SFST (Standard Field Sobriety Tests) and conducting breath testing when required. The Standard Field Sobriety Tests were implemented in 2017 by the Cobourg Police Service. This enables Officer’s to investigate and collect evidence for impaired driving by alcohol and specifically persons who are impaired by drugs.

The public is encouraged to visit: http://www.RIDECHECKS.com

Police remind motorists to be mindful when approaching a RIDE Check location. Officers will be standing in live lanes of traffic. When you see the flashing red and blue lights, slow down, proceed with caution, and officers will guide you through the checkpoint.

Make a commitment to yourself and passenger(s) never drive after consuming alcohol or drugs. As a passenger in a motor vehicle with an impaired driver, your safety is greatly compromised.

Drink responsibly and choose your ride home:

  • Contact Operation Red Nose at (905) 377-1218, if you feel your ability to drive a motor vehicle is impaired.
  • Call a cab
  • Call a friend
  • Stay over with friends
