Release Narrative:
From the 3rd day of December, 2018 through the 9th day of December, 2018 the Cobourg Police Service responded to 179 occurrences including; 20 Community Service calls, 9 Police Assistance calls, 2 Traffic Complaints, 1 Fraud call, 9 Suspicious Person calls, 6 Police Information calls, 10 Property Related calls, 4 Assault calls, 2 Break and Enter Calls, 4 – 911 calls, 8 Theft calls, 12 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 9 Alarm calls, 3 Harassment calls, 5 Disturb the Peace calls, 2 Threats calls, 1 Noise complaint, 5 Domestic Dispute calls, 6 Attempt or Threat of Suicide, 4 Mischief calls. Some examples of calls for service this week include;

Monday, December 3, 2018:

At approximately 4:00am Officers responded to a glass break alarm at a west end business. Investigating Officers observed the front door of the business had been broken, and entry gain into the premise. Investigation is continuing.

Police responded to a business located in the west end of Cobourg at 10:44am after receiving a report of a break and enter in the early hours of the morning. Investigating Officers did not observe any signs of forced entry into the premise. Investigation determined a television, remote control and power cable with a total value of $700.00 had been removed from the property by unknown person(s). No witness. No suspects.

Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in the area of Ontario Street at approximately 3:30pm. No parties injured. As a result of subsequent Police investigation one driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to change lane in safety.

Tuesday, December 4, 2018:
At approximately 10:00am Officers responded to a residential address in the east end Cobourg, after receiving a report of a theft of motor vehicle sometime overnight. Investigating officers learned that the involved vehicle had been parked in the driveway of the residence, with the keys still in the possession of the owner. The involved vehicle was later located the in the Village of Grafton. Investigation continues.

At 2:30pm Officers were dispatched to a west end business, after receiving a report of a female approaching vehicles and pedestrians in the parking lot, attempting to sell flowers. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, but were unable to locate any person pan handling in the area.

Officers responded to an east end address after receiving information that a male had allegedly been threatened with a baseball bat. Investigation determined no threat had taken place. All involved parties spoken too.

Wednesday, December 5, 2018
Officers on patrol in the downtown core, observed a male in the area of the Bus Shelter, who appeared to be in possession of an open can of beer. A subsequent Police investigation resulted in one male being issued a Provincial Offence notice, charged under the liquor license act for having liquor in an open container in place other than licensed premises, residence or private place.

Officers were dispatched to an address in the downtown core, after receiving a report of male lying face down in the roadway. Responding officers determined that the involved male was intoxicated. Due to concerns for personal safety, the male was arrested and held in the Custody of the Cobourg Police Service, until Sober. The male was subsequently issued a Provincial Offence Notice, charged under the Liquor License Act for being intoxicated in a public place.

Thursday, December 6, 2018
Members of the Cobourg Police Service were dispatched to a hold up alarm at a west end business at approximately 11:00am. A search of the premise was conducted by responding officers and everything appeared to be in order. Investigation determined that the alarm had accidently been activated by Staff.

At approximately 5:00 pm on the 6th of December 2018, officers of the Cobourg Police Service responded to a local business in the West end of Cobourg regarding a male and female who had been arrested for shoplifting by loss Prevention Officers. As a result of a subsequent investigation 25 year old Ashley HEAD of Cobourg was charged with Theft under $5,000, Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000, Fail to comply undertaking x 2 and Fail to comply Probation x 2 under the Criminal Code. Co accused 40 year Mark Hendy of Cobourg was also charged with Theft under $5,000, Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000, Fail to comply with Probation x 2

Officers responded to a west end residential address, after receiving a report of a theft of Christmas lights. Investigating Officers learned that sometime between 05:00hrs – 17:00hrs unknown person(s) had removed a Christmas light projector from the front lawn of the residence. No video. No suspects. No witnesses.

Friday, December 7, 2018
At approximately 1:00am Officers were dispatched to an east end neighborhood, after receiving a report of an unknown male, knocking on doors in the area. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate any person(s) in the area upon arrival.

On Friday the 7th of December, 2018, at approximately 7:45 am, police responded to an unknown disturbance in an apartment complex located in an east end neighborhood. Upon arrival Police located a man on scene who was in breach of the conditions of his court imposed Recognizance of Bail. As a result of the police investigation, 18 year Izik Hooper of Roseneath was arrested for Breach of Recognizance under the Criminal Code and held in custody pending a Bail Hearing.

On Friday the 7th day of December 2018, at approximately 10:30 pm, police on patrol in the downtown core observed a female whom was known to Officers as having a current warrant outstanding for her arrest. As a result of a subsequent investigation, 40 year old Dorothy Jean Ferguson of Cobourg was arrested and charged with Failing to Comply with Probation under the Criminal Code. Ferguson was additional charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Ferguson was held in the custody of the Cobourg Police Service, scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by way of video on the 8th day of December 2018.

Saturday, December 8, 2018
Members of the Cobourg Police Service were dispatched to a west end neighborhood after receiving information of suspicious activity in the area overnight. Responding officers learned that foot prints in the snow had been located by the complainant, who believed someone had walked up to multiple residential front doors. No thefts reported. No witness to the incident.

Police responded to a business in the downtown core after receiving a report of a theft from motor vehicle. Police investigation revealed the vehicle had been left unlocked. The only reported item noted to be missing was the vehicle owner’s lunch. No reported witness or suspects at this time.

Officers responded to a hold up alarm at the Town of Cobourg Public Library at approximately 5:00pm. Responding Officers learned that the library was closed, and the building was determined to be empty. Alarm appeared to be unfounded.

Sunday, December 9, 2018
Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in the area of Elgin Street West at approximately 2:30pm. No parties injured. As a result of subsequent Police investigation one driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to yield from private driveway.

At 11:45pm Officers responded to an unknown disturbance, outside a business located in the downtown core, reportedly involving three females and one male. Investigating Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, but were unable to locate any person(s). All involved appear to have left the area prior to Police arrival.
