Multiple Charges After Traffic Stop

A 35-year-old Cobourg man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop.

On July 29, 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling eastbound on James Street East. A Ministry of Transportation query indicated the vehicle’s insurance status could not be confirmed and the registered owner was not licensed.

During the investigation, police determined the driver was operating the vehicle despite being subject to a release order prohibiting him from driving a motor vehicle.

As a result, a 35-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with Release Order, two counts of Driving While Under Suspension, Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

 

Theft, Five Counts Fail to Comply, Possession of Fentanyl

A 21-year-old Cobourg man faces multiple charges following a shoplifting investigation.

On July 29, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., police responded to a business on Elgin Street West after receiving a report of a theft. Staff reported that a man trespassed from the property attended the business and stole merchandise before leaving the area.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Cobourg man was arrested on July 30, 2026. During the arrest, police located a quantity of fentanyl. The accused was charged with Theft Under $5,000, five counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, and Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl). The accused was held for a bail hearing.

 

Theft, Fail to Comply

A 28-year-old Cobourg man faces multiple charges following a shoplifting investigation.

On August 3, 2026, police responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a business on King Street East in Cobourg after an individual left the store without paying for merchandise.

Officers identified the suspect and located him a short distance away. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

 

Theft, Fail to Comply

A 35-year-old Cobourg woman faces multiple charges following a shoplifting investigation.

On July 31, 2026, police responded to a report of a theft at a business on Strathy Road in Cobourg. Staff reported observing a woman conceal merchandise and leave the store without paying. Police located an individual matching the description provided nearby.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

 

Theft, Fail to Comply

Two individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants after being taken into custody by partner police services.

On July 31, 2026, two partner police services notified the Cobourg Police Service that they had individuals in custody who were wanted on outstanding warrants issued by the Cobourg Police Service.

As a result, a 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old man was arrested on two outstanding Cobourg Police Service warrants and charged with three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused was also released on an undertaking with a future court date.
