The Port Hope Panthers will have a new head coach next Provincial Junior ā€˜C’ Hockey League season following the departure of Corey Beer.

Beer has been named the new head coach for the Pickering Panthers of the Ontario Junior ā€˜A’ Hockey League. He was an assistant coach with the Cobourg Cougars when they hosted and won the national junior A championship in 2017.

Following his tenure in Cobourg, Beer became head coach of the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Junior ā€˜A’ Hockey League before moving back closer to home in the Durham region with Okanagan Hockey Ontario academy program en route to later coach in Port Hope.

The Port Hope Panthers extended thanks and congratulations to Beer on social media.

ā€œThank you for your contributions to our program. We wish you all the best on this next step in your coaching career,ā€ the post stated.

In Pickering, Beer replaces one of the former players he coached in Cobourg in Connor Armour. He won the OJHL’s Coach of the Year award following the 2025-2026 season before being named the new head coach and general manager of the Trenton Golden Hawks.

Armour, before joining Pickering last season, coached the Cougars to two straight playoff appearances before being let go by the Cobourg club, which went on to have a tumultuous season.
