Traffic stop early Sunday morning leads to impaired charges.

On February 22, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., police on general patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically. Police initiated a traffic stop in the area of University Street and Margaret Street in Cobourg.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed grounds to believe her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Disobey Stop Sign, and Fail to Surrender Driver’s Licence.

The involved vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. The accused was released on an undertaking and Part III summons, with a future court date.

The Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. By reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can help keep roads and waterways safe. Always plan for a safe ride home, designate a sober driver, or call a friend, a relative, or a cab.

A Cobourg man is facing charges after police investigated a reported breach of court-imposed conditions.
