Cobourg Police – Flight From Police Investigation

Cobourg Police Service is requesting public assistance regarding a dangerous operation and a flight from police investigation.

On January 14, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of D’Arcy Street and Alexandria Drive in Cobourg when they observed a motor vehicle commit multiple Highway Traffic Act offences. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle turned off its lights and fled at a high rate of speed.  Police did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety. The vehicle was last seen travelling Eastbound on Elgin Street East from D’Arcy Street.

On January 14, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., police located the same vehicle in the West end of Cobourg.  Officers again observed the vehicle commit multiple Highway Traffic Act offences and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle again took off at a high rate of speed. Officers did not engage in a pursuit due to concerns for public safety. The vehicle was last seen in Cobourg, travelling westbound on Carlisle Street from Rogers Road, and was later observed in Port Hope in the area of Hamilton Road and Croft Street.

The vehicle is described as a blue Lexus IS250, missing the rear bumper, with different-coloured wheels, tinted windows, and a tinted rear plate cover. Police are urging the individual or individuals involved to come forward to assist in resolving the matter.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or CCTV/dashcam footage is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers. Information can be provided by calling the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or stopcrimehere.ca. Tips submitted to Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
