Peterborough Police – Ongoing Investigation Into Firearm Discharged

The investigation into a firearm that was discharged inside a west end residence on December 31,2025 continues to be actively investigated. The Peterborough Police Service Professional Standards Unit and Senior Investigators are assigned the matter and have engaged an independent third party to examine the firearm.

This incident is being investigated as any other incident that may have criminality associated to it, and Investigators are consulting with the Crown Attorney’s Office regarding the circumstances.

With the appropriate safeguards in place and external agencies engaged, the Chief did not identify a conflict of interest in being able to complete this investigation internally, which is in keeping with the provisions of O. Reg. 401/23, under the Community Safety and Policing Act.
