Quinte West OPP – Oshawa Youth Facing Charges After Vehicle Fire

Individual arrested and charged

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an individual in connection with a fully engulfed stolen vehicle on the 401.

On May 15, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m. Officers with the Quinte West OPP, the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) and Quinte West Fire were dispatched to a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flame on the Eastbound shoulder of the 401 at mile marker 517. There were no individuals in the vehicle or at the scene. An investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from the Durham Region earlier.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old from Oshawa has been charged with:

·        Theft of a Motor Vehicle

·        Failure to comply with Release Order – other than to attend court

·        Failure to comply with Undertaking

·        Failure to comply with Probation Order x2

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The name of the accused cannot be released under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
