City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Seeks Community Feedback on Local Policing

In Police Blotter

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Detachment wants to hear from you.

The OPP updates their Strategic Plan every three years. As a part of that process, every detachment develops a new Detachment Action Plan to address local priorities and concerns.

Part of the development of the local action plan involves a community consultation phase to gather feedback from the community and community partners on what they feel should be included in the new action plan.

In collaboration with the City of Kawartha Lakes, the OPP CKL Detachment has created a quick survey for the community to provide feedback.

The goal of the survey is to:

·        Understand community concerns and priorities related to safety, law enforcement, and local policing practices in the OPP CKL Detachment’s jurisdiction.

·        Identify key areas for improvement in police-community relations and areas where collaboration can be enhanced.

·        Foster open dialogue to encourage mutual understanding and strengthen partnerships between the police and the community.

·        Ensure that the action plan is responsive to the needs and expectations of the community, with a focus on addressing both immediate and long-term challenges.

·        Empower community members to have a voice in shaping policies and actions that impact their safety and well-being.

·        And lastly, to support the local Community Safety and Well-Being Plan by aligning police actions with broader community goals to enhance overall safety and quality of life.

“In order to build an action plan that suits the community’s needs and expectations we need to hear from you,” said Inspector Robert Flindall, Detachment Commander, Ontario Provincial Police City of Kawartha Lakes, “You can let us know what you think the top policing priorities in Kawartha Lakes should be by filling out our quick online survey today.”

The survey can take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to complete and it’s available on the OPP CKL Detachment Action Plan Update Jump In page:

The survey closes at 4:30pm on Friday May 30, 2025.
