On Monday, March 3, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., police received a call for a vehicle in a ditch in the area of Denton Drive and Trailsview Avenue in Cobourg. Upon police arrival, the vehicle driver was exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver failed a roadside screening test and was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Thornhill man was charged with:

• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

• Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero

• Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

• Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit

The accused received a 90-day licence suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He was released by way of an Undertaking with a future court date.

The Cobourg Police Service encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada, yet every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to the police, everyone can play a role in keeping roads and waterways safe. Always plan for a safe ride home, designate a sober driver, or call a friend, a relative, or a cab.
