Update – Northumberland OPP – Single Vehicle Collision on Highway 401

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a collision which resulted in the closure of westbound lanes on Highway 401.

On January 9, 2025, shortly before 10:50 a.m., Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Municipality of Port Hope Fire Department and OPP, responded to a report of a passenger vehicle leaving the roadway and rolling into a wooded area on the north side.

The lone occupant was believed to have sustained serious injuries and Air Ornge was dispatched to the location to provided medical assistance.

Diversions were in place as Highway 401 westbound was closed at Toronto Road.

The air ambulance landed west of the scene and the female driver of the passenger vehicle was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital for further treatment.

The highway re-opened at around midday and this investigation is on-going. No further information can be provided at this time.
