Northumberland OPP Set for Festive RIDE

In Police Blotter

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Festive R.I.D.E (Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign kicked off on November 21, 2024, and runs until January 1, 2025. The campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.

The Northumberland OPP is committed to ensuring our roads are safe from alcohol and drug-impaired drivers. Our members will be highly visible as they conduct R.I.D.E check points at various locations throughout Northumberland County during the campaign and throughout the year.

Our members would like to recognize and thank members of the public who continue to report suspected impaired drivers. Many of these drivers are caught because of concerned citizens being conscious of irregular or erratic driving behaviors that continue to put other motorists at risk.

However you choose to celebrate this holiday season the Northumberland OPP encourages everyone to plan ahead and arrange for a safe ride home. Call a friend, call a cab or call Operation Red Nose.  Remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, please call 9-1-1.

The Northumberland OPP values your contribution to building safe communities. If you have information about persons repeatedly driving while impaired and want to remain anonymous, please visit Crime Stoppers at: www.stopcrimehere.ca  or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
