Port Hope Police – Incidents Include Impaired Charge, Theft of Vehicle (No Names Released)

In Police Blotter

Impaired Driver

A 22-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On November 1, 2024, an officer on general patrol noticed a vehicle approach quickly from the rear of the police cruiser, and then proceeded to weave back and forth, and appeared to be impatient with the officer that was travelling at the lawful rate of speed. The officer pulled over to allow the vehicle to pass, and at that time initiated a traffic stop.

Once pulled over, the officer observed closed and open alcohol in the vehicle. As a result of an investigation, the male was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving. He was later released on an undertaking.

Theft of Vehicle

A 29-year-old Courtice male was arrested and charged with vehicle theft and obstructing a peace officer after a civilian witnessed the male attempting to steal a vehicle in Port Hope.

On November 6, 2024, the accused approached a cargo van on a residential street and attempted to start the vehicle. While the accused was tampering with the vehicle, a civilian noticed and the accused asked them for jumper cables, to which they declined. A second civilian arrived and witnessed the male attempting to start the vehicle.

Police were called and the male was placed under arrest. After the male failed to identify himself, police were able to determine that he was involved in a pursuit with OPP a day prior. OPP had not located him at the time but were seeking a warrant for his arrest. Port Hope Police released him on a form 10 and OPP picked him up to hold him for bail.
