Northumberland OPP – Cobourg Man Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another person with impaired operation following a public complaint in Cobourg.

On July 22, 2024, shortly after 6:00 a.m., a member of the public stopped police regarding a suspicious vehicle parked at a commercial premises on Division Street, Cobourg. Following speaking to the driver of the described vehicle, the officer was led into an impaired operation investigation. The individual was subsequently arrested and transported to a local detachment to undergo tests conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

As a result, Paul SAMMUT, 33-years-old, from Cobourg, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
