Northumberland OPP – Belleville Man Charged with Sexual Interference, Sexual Assault on Person Under 16

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual in relation to a sexual assault investigation.

On April 12, 2024, Northumberland OPP received information about a sexual assault that had occurred at a residence in the Municipality of Brighton.

As a result of the investigation assisted by the Northumberland Crime Unit, police arrested a person on July 10, 2024. The individual will not be named to protect the identity of the victim.

A 29-year-old male, from Belleville, has been charged with:

–      Sexual interference

–      Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age

–      Fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
