Quinte West – Officer Injured While Investigating Collision

Individual Faces Charges

A 27-year-old from Campbellford has been charged after an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was injured while responding to a collision.

Officers from the Quinte West Detachment, as well as Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and Quinte West Firefighters responded to River Drive, near Fish and Game Club Road, shortly after noon on June 22, 2024. A vehicle had left the roa d and rolled over. Both occupants had managed to get out of the vehicle.

A male passenger from the vehicle became aggressive with first responders.

During efforts to take the individual into custody, one OPP member suffered an injury which required hospital treatment.

The male has been charged with:

  • Assaulting a peace officer
  • Resisting a peace officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 11, 2024.

The driver of the vehicle was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with making an unsafe move – lane or shoulder.
