Belleville Police Service – Incidents Include Fraud Arrest and Dispute Over Dog (Name Released)

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 58 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on April 15, 2024 to 5:00 am on April 16, 2024.

Fraud
On the 14th of April, a citizen was dining out at a local restaurant. Following their meal, they paid the bill and departed the restaurant. At some point while in the restaurant, the patron lost their credit card but they did not realize it. Gary Switzer, a 34-year-old Belleville man came into possession of the credit card and began using it at various locations. Police were notified and began to investigate the transactions. Police obtained video of Switzer using the credit card and were able to identify him. As a result, Switzer was arrested and charged with fraud. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in May.

Dispute over dog leads to arrest
On the 15th of April at 12:51pm, Belleville Police received a call from a female advising that her ex-partner is trying to steal her dog. During the altercation, the male grabbed the female victim by the neck. Police attended the east end residence and spoke to the involved parties. As a result, police arrested a 40-year-old Belleville man for assault. The male was later released on an Undertaking with a court date in May. The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
