Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged After Altercation at Encampment (No Name Released)

A 66-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police responded to an incident on Sunday night.

On Sunday, March 31, 2024, at approximately 6:15 p.m., police were called to a property in the area of King Street East and Brook Road South in response to a report of assault.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle arrived on the property, and a man exited the vehicle with an axe and engaged in an argument with an individual over an alleged property theft. It is alleged that during the altercation, the man swung the axe at the individual, got back in the vehicle and drove towards the individual.

At some point during the altercation, the individual obtained a bat and swung it toward the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Police obtained video surveillance of the incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 66-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and dangerous operation.

The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions.
