Port Hope Police – Incidents Include Breach of Undertaking, Impaired Driver, Criminal Harassment (No Names Given)

Breach of Undertaking

A 37-year-old Roseneath male was charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, after he attempted to contact his ex-partner who he is on conditions not communicate with. The undertaking is from July 12, 2022. The male is currently before the court for 3 counts of domestic assault, assault cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon and utter threats cause death.

 

Impaired Driver

A 38-year-old Port Hope male was arrested and charged with impaired driving after he was observed passed out in his vehicle at a local business.

On February 23, 2024, staff at a local business contacted police after a vehicle parked in the parking lot and a male who appeared to be impaired exited and attempted to make a purchase from the business. The staff took the males car keys and called police.  The male was arrested and charged and later released with a court date of March 13, 2024.

 

Breach of Release order

A 57-year-old Oakville man was arrested for failing to comply with a release order after police were called to a Port Hope gas station for a report of a possible impaired driver.

On February 23, 2024, police located a male in the parking lot of a gas station, asleep in his vehicle with the engine on. Police approached the driver side door, opened it, and turned off the vehicle for safety concerns.  Police woke the driver and inquired if he was ok. He advised he was on route to Montreal and was tired and decided to pull over. Police observed no smell of alcohol or signs of impairment.

A police check of the male showed he was on a release order out of Halton Region P.S. which stated he must remain on his property in Oakville at all times except while at work with written permission from his surety. The male was placed under arrest for failing to comply with his release order.

 

Criminal Harassment

In October 2023 a 49-year-old Cobourg male was charged with criminal Harassment and Failure to comply with an undertaking.

Strict conditions were placed on the accused to have no contact with the victim.  On the 4th of March 2024, the accused breached his undertaking by communicating with the victim.  On March 5th, 2024, the accused was arrested for Failure to comply with a release order, and criminal harassment. The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
