Three Downtown Incidents
It was a busy few hours for officers with the Peterborough Police Service. They located a man riding a stolen bike, arrested an attempted purse snatcher and are returning a woman wanted on a warrant in Toronto.
Robbery Arrest
A 37-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident downtown Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 12:40pm on July 30, 2026, officers were called to King Street near George Street after a several bystanders reported a man attempting to snatch a purse from a woman. She was dragged across the street before the man let go of the purse and took off after bystanders intervened. Officers with the Emergency Response Team, Community F.I.R.S.T Unit and K9 were on patrol in the downtown area, collectively responded to the call and started searching for a male matching the description given to police. Officers utilized the downtown CCTV cameras as an investigative tool. As a result, they were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody. The 63-year-old victim went to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A 37-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court July 31, 2026.
Threatening Incident
At approximately 10:12 am, the Peterborough Police Service received a call for service about a downtown store employee who, on their way to work, had been verbally threatened by an unknown person. At approximately 2:00pm, officers with Community F.I.R.S.T were able to locate the individual based on a description given to police and further learned that the woman was wanted on a warrant in Toronto. As a result, the woman is being returned to that community to face the charges there.
EBike Return
On Thursday, July 30, 2026, a report was filed through the online reporting system about the overnight theft of two E-bikes from a local campground. The bikes are valued at approximately $2500 apiece. At about 11:30am, officers aware of the report spotted two people riding the bikes and approached. One of the suspects dropped their bike and fled and the second rode off.
Police were able to return one of the bikes to the owner who is visiting from out of town and are currently following leads to identify the suspects and retrieve the second bike.
