Cobourg Woman Facing Charges Resulting from Shoplifting

A 39-year-old Cobourg woman is facing charges after police responded to a shoplifting incident on Wednesday.

On July 8, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police responded to a business in the area of Spring Street and King Street West in Cobourg following a report of shoplifting. Police located and arrested an individual matching the description provided. During the arrest, police recovered the stolen property and seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl, and Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.


Roseneath Man Charged with Multiple Driving Offences Including Impaired Driving

A 22-year-old Roseneath man is facing impaired driving and multiple Highway Traffic Act charges following a traffic stop.

On July 7, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle proceed through a red light at the intersection of King Street West and William Street. Police conducted a traffic stop, and while speaking with the driver, officers detected a strong odour of alcohol. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old man from Roseneath was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Fail to Display Two Plates
  • Red Light – Proceed Before Green
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero
  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.


Two Cobourg Residents Charged with Theft of Copper Wire

Two Cobourg residents are facing charges following an investigation into the theft of copper wire from a local business.

On June 6, 2026, the Cobourg Police Service received a report of a theft from a business in the area of D’Arcy Street in Cobourg. Surveillance video revealed that at approximately 3:20 a.m., a group of individuals attended the business and used bolt cutters to remove multiple sections of copper from the property.

As a result of the investigation, on July 1, 2026, two Cobourg residents were arrested. Matthew TOOMEY (41) and Bradley BRIDGES (42) were jointly charged with Mischief – destroys or damages property, Theft over $5,000, possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Toomey was released with a future court date.

BRIDGES was additionally charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine). He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released with a future court date.
