Cobourg Police – Cobourg Dentist Charged with Sexual Assault (Name Released)

A dentist has been arrested following a sexual assault investigation at a dental clinic in the Town of Cobourg.

On June 27, 2026, the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault that occurred during a dental appointment.

As a result of the investigation, on July 6, 2026, Sunilkumar Patel (38) of Ajax, a dentist at the Northumberland Dental Clinic, was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released to a surety with conditions and a future court date.

The investigation is ongoing as there may be other victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 or online at stopcrimehere.ca.

Cobourg Police Service reminds everyone that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. Sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
