Northumberland OPP – Incidents Include Impaired Charge, Weapons Charge, Harassment Charge

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a number of individuals in unrelated incidents.

Impaired Operation Charge
On June 27, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police were on patrol on County Road 9 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. The motorist was stopped and, following interaction with the driver, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Brysen DEVOE (23) from Port Hope has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

· Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

· Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

· Fail to surrender insurance card

· Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August 2026. In addition, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were imposed.

Weapons Charge
On June 28, 2026, at approximately 10:50 a.m., police responded to a dispute between tenants at a multi-occupancy residence on Moore Service Road in the Township of Hamilton.

The caller reported that a firearm had been brandished during the altercation.
Police attended the location and took one individual into custody. The scene was secured while members of the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit assisted with the investigation.

A number of firearms and ammunition were seized following the execution of a search warrant.

An 82-year-old male from the Township of Hamilton, has been charged with:

· Pointing a firearm

· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

· Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September 2026. The individual will not be named in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Harassment
On June 26, 2026, OPP received a report regarding harassing communications. The complainant advised that, over the past four years, they had received numerous unwanted communications from a known individual through various platforms, including phone calls and social media messages. The communications were directed at the victim and involved a child family member.

Later that day, officers took one individual into custody in relation to the investigation.

A 28-year-old female from Havelock, has been charged with:
· Harassing communications

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August 2026. The individual will not be named in order to protect the identity of the victim and the young person involved.
