Cobourg Police – High-Risk Takedown in Cobourg

Police are investigating after a report of a person with a firearm at a downtown establishment.
On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to a licensed establishment in the area of Third Street and King Street in Cobourg after receiving a report that an individual told several people that they had a firearm and threatened to use it.

Officers immediately attended the area and obtained a description of the vehicle the person had reportedly departed in. Officers initiated a search and located the vehicle in the north end of Cobourg.

The occupants were seen exiting the vehicle and entering another vehicle that attempted to leave the area. Out of concern for public safety based on information that one of the individuals may have been armed, officers conducted a high-risk vehicle stop. All occupants were detained and searched. No firearm was located.

Police continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821 or provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at stopcrimehere.ca.
