Peterborough County OPP – Ennismore Man Charged with Assaulting Angler (Name Released)

The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to Chemong Lake for a reported ice-fishing related assault.

On Wednesday January 14, 2026, just before 4:00pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to Chemong Lake in Selwyn Township where an individual reported being assaulted while ice-fishing. The complainant advised that the accused came up to them in an aggressive manner while they were fishing. The complainant stated the accused was upset they were fishing close to where they were and as a result, assaulted them.

Officers arrived on scene and after speaking with all parties, one person was arrested.

Michael ARMSTRONG (age 72) of Ennismore, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Assault

The accused is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 24, 2026.
