Video – Northumberland OPP – Numerous Drivers Charged for Driving the Wrong Way on the Highway 401 On-Ramp

In News

Northumberland OPP say at least five drivers were charged for going the wrong way up a on-ramp on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Northumberland OPP received reports of numerous vehicles exiting Highway 401 at Burnham Street – essentially going the wrong way of the on-ramp to Highway 401 westbound at Burnham Street in Cobourg.

The vehicles pulled into the MTO parking lot on Burnham Street, just north of Highway 401 where the tickets were issued.

At least five drivers were charged with going the wrong way, one driver was also charged with fail to surrender driver’s license.

The fine under the Highway Traffic Act for going the wrong way is $110.00.

It’s believed westbound traffic was backed up for a brief period of time while a commercial motor vehicle was removed from the ditch.

Traffic was moving along at normal speed along the Highway before all of the tickets were given to the drivers.
