Northumberland OPP – Vehicle Recovered from River in Trent Hills

In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the circumstances surrounding a vehicle that was recovered from the Trent River in Campbellford.

On October 21, 2025, shortly before 1:30 a.m., police and the Fire Department responded to assist Emergency Medical Services (EMS) after two individuals exited the Trent River near Ranney Gorge Drive and Seymour Quarry Road. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment related to water exposure.

Further investigation indicated that a collision had occurred and that a vehicle was submerged in the river.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (URSU) was requested to assist. URSU located a submerged pickup truck and confirmed that no persons were inside.

The vehicle recovery process took considerable time due to the nature of the task and the location of the incident. Following the extraction from the river and o nto dry land after 12:00 p.m. on October 22, officers were able to gain access to search the vehicle with assistance from the Fire Department.

Items found in and on the pickup truck were linked to the two individuals who exited the water earlier. At this time, no other persons are believed to be involved.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
