Peterborough County OPP – Investigation Into Tampering of Quarry Equipment

In Police Blotter

The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an act of mischief that occurred at the Buckhorn Quarry in late July.

On Thursday July 31, 2025, the Peterborough County OPP received a call from the owner of Buckhorn Quarry located on Bass Line in the Municipality of Trent Lakes advising of mischief that had occurred recently at the quarry. The complainant advised that one of their machines had suddenly stopped working, followed almost immediately by a second similar machine. Mechanics began working on the equipment and determined that a substance had been placed into the hy draulic system causing the machines to fail.

Upon review of their equipment, the quarry has found multiple machines that had been tampered with and estimates the cost to repair them in excess of $500,000.

It is believed that the mischief occurred within the last two weeks of July 2025. Anyone who may have information that may assist in our investigation is asked to contact the OPP.
