With the Safer Streets Act kicking in on June 6, Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf said, “they are really knocking it out of the park.”

But added in a brief interview with Cobourg Police Services Board Chair Adam Bureau outside the Cobourg Police Station, that he won’t be attending the town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Cobourg Community Centre.

VandeGraaf lauded the working being done by members of the service for the Safer Streets Act.

“Our team continues to do their great work,” said VandeGraaf.

“Last weekend and into today they were really knocking it out of the park. They are fulfilling the commitment that we made.”

VandeGraaf spoke of the “great arrest” of someone “preying on our vulnerable people.”

“Kudos to the officers.”

Bureau added the service is “pulling a lot of different resources to really attack this,” but didn’t elaborate to which VandeGraaf agreed.

VandeGraaf wished Council “all the best” at the Town Hall meeting, but said, “right now we’re focusing on our core mandate which is really making sure that Safer Streets Cobourg is a success.”

VandeGraaf also stated that the school season is wrapping up, and “amazing traffic enforcement stuff happening.”

“We’ve got to continue to increase the management of foot patrol downtown – we’re busy.”

“I wish you well in your meeting.”
