Northumberland OPP – Warkworth Inmate Charged with Manslaughter (Name Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual in relation to a death investigation at the Warkworth Institution.

On Sunday, May 28, 2023, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Northumberland OPP received information regarding an incident involving inmates at the institution. One person sustained serious injuries.

On Friday, June 23, 2023, the individual succumbed to their injuries, and a homicide investigation was initiated by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Quinnton DRAKE, 32 years old of Loyalist Township, was charged with manslaughter, section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 13, 2025.
