Durham Regional Police – Suspect Wanted for Sexual Assaults Arrested

Jared MERCIECA, the male wanted for two sexual assaults, has been arrested.

In January, 2025, the suspect was visiting with friends in Clarington and touched the nine-year-old victim in an inappropriate manner.

In February, 2025, the suspect sexually assaulted an adult victim at a residence in Whitby. The victim woke up to the suspect sexually assaulting her. The suspect then brought the victim to his vehicle, where he assaulted her.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, members of Central East Division arrested the suspect without incident.
Jared MERCIECA, age 35, of Whitby is charged with: Sexual Interference with a Person Under 16 Years of Age; Sexual Assault x2; Assault Cause Bodily Harm; Choking; Uttering Threats to Cause Death and Dangerous Operation.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Police are concerned there may be other victims.
