City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Impaired Driving Charges (Names Released)

On March 12th, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting proactive radar patrol on Country Road 36.

During the patrol, an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding.

While speaking with the driver, the officer became suspicious that the driver was impaired.

As a result, 55-year-old Andres Rittman from Lindsay was arrested and charged with:

– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

– Speeding – 1-49 km/h Over the Posted Limit

– Fail to Surrender Insurance Card

– Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle

Later that evening at approximately 9:00 p.m., OPP officers conducted a proactive patrol near Coboconk.

They encountered a vehicle idling in the live lane on Cedar Road. After speaking with the driver, they initiated an impaired driving investigation.

33-year-old John Timmins from Coboconk was arrested and charged with:

– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

– Driving While Under Suspension

Both individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay. In accordance with impaired driving laws, their driver’s licenses have been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles have been impounded for seven days.

The OPP remains dedicated to removing alcohol and drug-impair ed drivers from the road through both enforcement and public education. If you suspect a driver is impaired, please call 9-1-1. By doing so, you could help prevent a tragic accident and potentially save a life. The OPP encourages all motorists to plan ahead: designate a driver, use a taxi, take public transit, or stay overnight. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to make sound judgments while driving.
