Peterborough County OPP – Drug Trafficking Investigation Leads to Arrest (Name Released)

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Peterborough County / Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) arrested an individual in relation to an ongoing trafficking investigation.

On Wednesday February 26, 2025, members of the Peterborough/Northumberland CSCU located an individual on Highway 115 believed to be involved in trafficking. Officers conducted a traffic stop at which point the driver was placed under arrest.

Officers conducted a search incident to arrest and located a kilogram of suspected Cocaine as well as Marihuana Hash and Marihuana Bud.

Immediately upon being arrested, the accused advised that they needed to attend an industrial unit located in Peterborough City as a large Marihuana Extractor had been left running and if it was not shut off, it could explode. Officers, along with the Peterborough Fire Department attended and the machine was safely shut off.

Warrants were executed at both the industrial unit as well as the accused’s residence where police located a large Marihuana resin extraction machine, 51 garbage bags filled with Marihuana bud/shake, 2kg of Marihuana Hash, and approximately 10 litres of Marihuana oil.

Jayson MCCONNELL (age 39) of Ennismore, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I substance – Cocaine

·      Possession for the purpose of distributing Cannabis (two counts)

·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

·      Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

·      Fail to comply with a Release Order

·      Obtain or offer to obtain Cannabis by any method or process (manufacturing, altering chemical or physical properties)

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

During the arrest, officers located and seized:

·      1 kilogram of Cocaine

·      $755 in Canadian Currency

·      2 kilograms of Hash

·      10 litres of Hash Oil

·      Large amounts of Marihuana for processing

·      Large Industrial Marihuana Resin Extraction machine

·      Various chemicals associated with Marihuana Resin extraction

·      51 garbage bags of Marihuana Shake

·      A spring-loaded knife

·      Cellphone

The Ontario Fire Marshall is also looking into possible charges/fines in relation to the operation of the Marihuana extraction machine.
