Township of Alnwick/Haldimand Issues Statement on the Draft 2025 Budget

In City Hall

On Monday, January 27, 2025, the Council of the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand held a second special council meeting to review the Draft 2025 Budget. Following this meeting, it was identified by staff that incorrect budget values were presented due to a spreadsheet error.

“On January 28, 2025, it was brought to my attention that there was a potential error in the Council Renumeration budget line. Upon review on January 29, 2025, it was determined that an error had in fact occurred. We take the responsibility of managing public resources seriously and are committed to ensuring transparency, accuracy, and clarity in all financial matters. Staff are conducting a complete review of all budget numbers ahead of the February 10, 2025 Budget Meeting to ensure Council and the public have an accurate document that reflects the direction and sound financial decisions of the Township in 2025. The trust of our Council and residents is invaluable, and we will continue to work
diligently to uphold that trust in every decision we make as a Township.” – Dave Dawson, CAO/Fire Chief

“I commend staff for taking responsibility for this budget package issue and their proactive approach to fixing it. I know how hard staff have been working on developing the Draft 2025 Budget and stand by them and their efforts to deliver a financially sound and realistic budget that will see us into 2025 and beyond. I look forward to reviewing the updated budget package with my Council colleagues in February.” – John Logel, Mayor

The revised Draft 2025 Budget will be presented to Council at a Special Meeting on February 10, 2025 at the Alnwick Civic Centre. The presentation will address the decisions of Council from the two previous Special Council Budget Meetings in December and January as well as any additional updates brought forward by staff.
