Peterborough County OPP – Traffic Complaint Leads to Impaired Charge (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call with information about a possible impaired driver.

On January 27, 2025, shortly before 1:00am, Peterborough County OPP received a complaint of a vehicle swerving on the road and then going off the road into the ditch on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township. The caller advised that they, along with another in the vehicle, had observed the vehicle swerving and then go off the road. They stopped to check on the condition of the driver and when speaking with the driver, they believed they were impaired. At this point, they contacted the Peterborough County OPP.

Moments later, officers arrived on scene and approached the vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver noting signs of impairment at which point an arrest was made. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Matthew BOYLES (age 37) of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on March 4, 2025.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
