Northumberland OPP – Cobourg Man Charged with Impaired After Nearly Colliding with Cruiser (Name Released)

In Police Blotter

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid another impaired driving charge in Hamilton Township.

On Friday January 17, 2025, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers observed a white sedan travelling northbound on Division Street at a rate of speed higher than the posted 50km/hr speed limit. The vehicle came into close proximity of the police cruiser that was turning southbound nearly causing a collision. Officers located the vehicle a few minutes later at the location of Dale Road and Division Street North in the north side ditch. Upon speaking with the driver police suspected the individual had been consuming alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test, and the driver registered a ‘fail’. The individual was taken into custody and transported to a nearby police station where further testing was conducted.

As a result of the investigation, Mark CARRIER (age 24) of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous Operation

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) for improper tires.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in February 2025.
