DRIVER BLOWS OVER THREE TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT
On Monday January 20, 2025, at approximately 12:15 am, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Dale Road east of County Road 45.
A grey pick-up truck was travelling westbound when it left the roadway into the south ditch where it hit a tree causing minor injuries to the driver. While officers were investigating the collision, a second vehicle arrived on scene where the driver claimed to know the driver of the pick-up truck that was involved in the collision. Upon speaking with the operator of the second vehicle, police suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test and the operator registered a ‘fail’. The individual was taken into custody and taken to a nearby police station where further testing was conducted which resulted in the driver registering over three times the legal limit.
As a result Emily Johnston, (age 35) from Hamilton Township has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in March, 2025. In addition to the future court date for the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
The OPP remind the public not to drive when planning to consume alcohol or drugs.
