Councillor Vicki Mink Assumes Deputy Mayor Role for Municipality of Port Hope in 2025

In City Hall

Councillor Vicki Mink has assumed the role of Deputy Mayor of Port Hope for 2025, as part of the Municipality’s established rotation system for this position.

“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to both of my Council colleagues who have served as Deputy Mayor before me,” states Deputy Mayor Mink. “I believe the rotating role brings new leadership and fresh perspectives, while sharing the responsibility and ensuring that the core values of our Council remain upheld. As we enter the third year of our term, it’s an exciting time with many important projects underway, and I look forward to contributing to our collective success.”

In 2023, Council approved a rotational system for the Deputy Mayor position, offering eligible Council members the opportunity to serve in this leadership role. The rotation for the current Council term includes Councillors Attridge, Holloway Wadhwani, Mink, and Pearson.

The Deputy Mayor serves primarily to represent the Mayor when they are ill or absent, or at public events and functions. While the role is not legislated under the Municipal Act, it is widely adopted by municipalities across Ontario and Canada to support Council operations and leadership.

“In Port Hope, our collaborative leadership approach ensures that every Council member who chooses to participate has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our community,” adds Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “We look forward to Deputy Mayor Mink’s leadership in this role and thank Councillor Claire Holloway Wadhwani for her dedication as Deputy Mayor in 2024.”
