Belleville Police – Incidents Include Two People Charged Stealing Propane Tank, Impaired Driver Charged, Bar to Bar Fight (Names Released)

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 167 calls for service between 5:00 am on 3 January, 2025 to 5:00 am on 6 January, 2025.

 

Propane tank thieves caught
A call to a north end business led to the arrest of two individuals late Friday.

Shortly before 10 p.m. officers were dispatched to a business on Millennium Parkway for a report of a theft.

Staff reported two people broke into a storage area and made off with a propane tank.

Police located the suspects nearby and one was found to be on court-imposed conditions not to be in the area of the business.

Charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation is Terry Peterbaugh, 51 of no fixed address.

Also charged with theft under $5,000 in relation to the incident is Stella Olmstead, 47, of no fixed address.

Both were released with a February court date.

 

Be wary of parking lot jewelry sales
Officers are investigating after a bait-and-switch theft in the parking lot of a Millennium Parkway business Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m. what appeared to be a family approached a woman walking through the parking lot of a north end business. The family implied they were attempting to sell an expensive necklace – and offered for her to try it on.

As the woman was putting on the necklace that was apparently for sale, the thieves stealthily removed an expensive piece of jewelry from the woman.

The family then left the scene with the woman’s jewelry in hand.

An investigation into identifying the group is underway, however the public is cautioned to be wary of anyone offering to sell merchandise or items in what could be considered a suspicious way.

 

Impaired driver arrested
What was initially a suspicious vehicle call turned into an overnight stay at the Belleville police station for a 34-year-old man, Saturday.

Officers were called to a Tracey Street address for a report of a suspicious man sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot at 9:18 p.m.

Police spoke with the male and detected the odour of alcohol on his breath.

Following an investigation, he was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood (Over 80 mgs).

While talking to witnesses during the investigation, officers were advised of what was believed to be a domestic dispute involving the male and a female at a nearby residence.

It was alleged the male broke into the female’s home while she was sleeping.

As a result, the male was additionally charged with Criminal Harassment and Break and Enter. He was held for a bail hearing on Sunday.

Given the domestic nature of the incident, the male’s name is not being released to protect the identify of the victim involved.

 

Bar to a bar fight
A 44-year-old Harrowsmith man was held in police custody overnight following a physical altercation at a bar on North Front Street early Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. Staff advised a man, who became involved in a fight at the bar had left and returned with a metal bar to continue the altercation.

The male was detained by staff until police arrived. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and held until sober.

 

Driver on bail conditions nabbed
A driver was held for a bail hearing following a traffic stop on Dundas Street West early Monday.

An officer pulled a vehicle over shortly after 1 a.m. for a traffic violation.

A check of the driver found him to be on release conditions which included a curfew of 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The 47-year-old Quinte West resident was arrested, charged with breaching his conditions and held for a bail hearing today.
