Northumberland OPP – Grafton Youth Facing Numerous Charges After Collision

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a number of criminal charges following unrelated speeding incidents on Highway 401.

On December 18, 2024, shortly after 11:30 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton when they observed a passenger vehicle travelling at a speed of 174 Km/h in a posted 100 Km/h limit.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle however it failed to do so. Shortly after, OPP received a report of a motor vehicle collision which had occurred at the next exit. Officers attended and identified the same vehicle which they had prior observed travelling at a high speed. The driver and passenger were out of the vehicle which was on its roof and both occupants were uninjured.

The driver, a 17-year-old male, from Grafton, was arrested and charged with:

–      Dangerous operation

–      Flight from peace officer.

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

–      Entire plate not plainly visible.

The accused shall not be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
